Pride Travel Fund

Support the Mountaineer Marching Band

Since 2007, the Pride Travel Fund, established by the WVU Foundation, has enabled the WVU Marching Band to perform at locations across the state and country. Performances away from Milan Puskar Stadium allow the band to serve as an ambassador for WVU as it performs in front of alumni, friends and prospective students.

This year the band has plans to travel to Wheeling, West Virginia, to the Wheeling 250th Anniversary Parade, and to Charleston, West Virginia, to perform for the Gazette-Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival. In years past, the Pride Travel Fund has helped the band travel to away football games across the country including Syracuse, Connecticut, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Marshall and the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the fall of 2020, the band looks forward to traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, to support theMountaineer Football team as it takes on Florida State University in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

While WVU and the Athletic Department provide generous financial support for the band, travel expenses often exceed the band's budget. It takes eight charter buses to move the band from place to place, and as you can imagine, moving a band of 350 students, with instruments and equipment, and providing meals can be very expensive. A simple trip to Charleston, West Virginia, for example, can cost as much as $15,000. Your gift provides invaluable assistance in covering the costs associated with the band's appearances throughout the region.

Once again this year, the Pride asks for your support. The students in the band come from all majors across campus. Their hard work manifests into the award winning ensemble that is the Pride of West Virginia. Please consider helping these students achieve even better results and have life-long meaningful experiences. Your support would mean a great deal to these youngMountaineers.

"Being in the marching band has allowed me the chance to give back to my state that has given me so much. It is an opportunity to show others who we are and what we are all about-- hard work and dedication-- and to spread love to every individual possible. West Virginia is a place where everyone loves their neighbor and I feel performing with the Pride of WV captures that very well."
